Kindergarten Readiness- This program is targeted toward Muscogee
County Pre-Kindergarten students who are identified as needing extra help building their vocabulary. Each fall and spring
session, two schools will host this program. For eight weeks, trained volunteers will spend 1 hour a week reading one-on-one with two children. Every day a volunteer and child will
read the preassigned book and partake in an activity. At the ending of each week, each child in the program will take home
completed worksheets and the book of the week in hopes of sharing what they've learned with their family. Some of our books
include: Silly Sally, The Eensy-Weensy Spider, If You Give A Pig A Pancake, and The Kissing Hand.

The Dictionary Project-The
2009-2010 school year will be the fifth year that The Literacy Alliance will bring The Dictionary Project to all third-grade
students of the Muscogee County and Fort Benning school districts. This special motivational program is designed to capture
the imagination of the students as well as help them realize the importance of being confident in their reading skills
and how their choices today impact the jobs that they will be able to choose from one day. Dressed in graduation regalia, a presenter enters the school with the purpose of instilling in our youth the importance
of words in school, our daily activities and our future career. Also, the presenter helps the students find the words PRIDE and RESPECT in
their dictionaries. The importance of the words is then discussed by the group of students. We have a lot of fun with the fact they ARE going to graduate
high school one day. Our third graders in 2009-2010 are "The Class of 2019".
Every student will receive their very own dictionary and a pen imprinted with "Congratulations Class of 2019" as
a reminder of their goal to graduate high school. A label is placed on the inside cover recognizing those who funded this
project. This lets the students know that there are people they don't know who truly care about them and their education. The Dictionary Project is made possible through the kind sponsorships
of civic groups and individuals. This year, the Rotary Club of Columbus is the sole sponsor of The Dictionary Project,
which reaches more than 25,000 students. We want to thank
the extreme generosity of the Rotary Club of Columbus for their third year of support.
